There are 21 men's basketball teams that compete in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association: 11 in the East Region and another 10 in the West Region.
And of the 21 teams, no less than nine can be considered legitimate candidates to win the '09-10 OCAA championship.
With regular-season play in the '10 portion of the season set to resume next week, Sir Sanford Fleming -Peterborough leads the East Region standings with a perfect 11-0 record followed by Durham at 8-3, St. Lawrence-Kingston at 7-2, Algonquin at 7-3 and Seneca, also at 7-3.
In the West Region, Fanshawe leads the way with an unbeaten 8-0 record followed closely by Humber at 8-1, Algoma University at 7-2 and Sheridan at 6-2.
Algoma, to be sure, is not only one of four prime-time teams in the West but among those who figure to be in contention for the overall title when the OCAA crowns its men's basketball champions in early March.
