Lyles, Wiggins Dominate as Canadian Junior Nats Stay Undefeated at FIBA Americas
Trey Lyles (Saskatoon, SK) pulled down his second double-double and finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds as Canada defeated Columbia 98-67 to improve to 2-0 in Group B action at the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championships.
The Victory also qualifies Canada for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships alongside the USA, Argentina and Brazil as the representatives from the Americas Zone.
Head Coach Roy Rana and his team broke open a tied game (17-17) in the second quarter by outscoring their South American opponents 30-15. Canada also dominated Columbia in the final 10 minutes with a 32-8 advantage.
The Canadians needed and got a strong game from Andrew Wiggins with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Point Guard Tyler Ennis put together another all-around effort, dropping a game-high six assists to along with 12 points and four rebounds.
Another stud for Canada was Duane Notice who came off the bench to score 14 points in 14 minutes.
With two games in the books, Canada is exactly where we expected them to be, the team is extremely deep as evident by placing five players in double-figures scoring in their opening game and six against the Colombians.
Canada will face its stiffest test of the Americas competition against their next opponents, 2-0 Argentina.
