Hot Start For Newcomer Johnny Higgins Has St. Mary's Huskies Undefeated 2012 Eric Garland
St. Mary's Huskies opened up the 2012-13 CIS Men's Basketball season in fine fashion with an exciting 117-100 overtime victory over the ST. F.X Men on Friday night, and improved to 2-0 after a 82-59 dispatching of the UQAM Citadins in their second game of the 2012 Eric Garland preseason tournament hosted by the UNB Varsity Reds.
Newcomer Johnny Higgins (Marshall Herd, NCAA D1) wasted no time in his debut scoring a team-high 25 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the wild shootout against ST. F.X.
The 6-2, 185 lbs guard out of Baltimore, Maryland didn't miss a beat in the second game, in fact the only thing missing was the triple-double as Higgins finished with 22 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds.
The Huskies are looking to improve on their 9-11 AUS conference record (14-19 Overall) from a year ago, and look poised to be amongst the Top 25 teams in country when the 2012-13 BasketballBuzz CIS Men's Preseason Rankings roll out later this month.
St. Mary's will look to finish the tournament a perfect 3-0 when it plays tournament host UNB Varsity Red in the final game.
