Cristal Taylor said Tuesday that she is pregnant with the child of Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki and that they were indeed engaged before her May 6 arrest at Nowitzki's home.



Speaking by telephone from jail in Beaumont, Taylor occasionally broke into soft sobs. She said their engagement suddenly broke off and her life unraveled when Nowitzki's longtime German coach Holger Geschwindner urged a prenuptial agreement and an investigation of her past.



"I've known Dirk for seven years — and, no, I didn't tell him everything about my past because I was afraid," Taylor said. "But I mean, now I'm pregnant and alone and broke because he is my only source of income."



Taylor, 37, arranged the interview Monday night with the help of her mother, Shirley, who set up the three-party conversation from her St. Louis-area home.



Initially, Cristal Taylor asked whether Nowitzki had talked to the media and what the Mavericks forward had said about her.
