Best For Last Robert Sacre of North Vancouver taken by Lakers with the final pick
Even after a four-and-a-half-hour ordeal in which he heard the names of 59 others called before him, North Vancouver’s Robert Sacre was his inimitable self when he picked up the phone early Friday morning at a family gathering in Louisiana.
“The best for last,” Sacre said without effort. “That is what I was expecting.”
If that is any indication of his calm under pressure, Sacre is going to carve out a nice NBA career for himself.
The 7-footer from Handsworth Secondary, by way of Spokane’s Gonzaga University, was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 60th and final pick of the 2012 NBA draft, making him the first B.C.-raised NBA pick since Steve Nash went 15th overall to Phoenix in 1996.
