Steve Nash is a free agent. Those words may sound tantalizing to Toronto basketball fans—imagine Captain Canada coming home to finish his career in a Raptor uniform. But for Nash and the Raptors their union has very little chance of coming to fruition.

Why? The reasons are actually plentiful, and from both camps. As much Nash has a connection to his home country he has very little to the city of Toronto. Granted the Raptors are the only Canadian based club in the NBA, and having a professional outfit has certainly fertilized the basketball landscape in the country, but Nash has a much stronger emotional pull from his years in Phoenix than for a desire to play in his home country. As well being in the latter stages of his hall of fame career if Nash was going to leave Phoenix he would likely go to a team that has short term potential to win an NBA crown and believes that his addition would be the final championship piece. That would be the Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Atlanta Hawks, the New York Knicks, or the Indiana Pacers.
