Windsor Lancers Take Down NCAA's South Alabama Jaguars 82-80 In OT
Former Guelph Gryphons Guard Michael Petrella (6'0 5th-year senior) poured in a team-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting to lead the Windsor Lancers to an 82-80 overtime victory over visiting NCAA D1 South Alabama Jaguars.
The Lancers went ahead 34-29 at half-time and further extended the lead to 60-44 after a hot shooting third quarter that saw them outscore their NCAA basketball opponents 26-17.
The Jaguars behind Junior Augustine Rubit double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds held Windsor to their lowest scoring quarter of the game and outscored the home team 28-14 to forced overtime at 74-74.
Lancers point guard Josh Collins added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Collins put up a game-high 21 shots, connecting on only five of those attempts.
Evans Matthews (13 points) banged hard on the boards and finished with a team-high 8 rebounds.
The Jaguars out-rebounded Windsor 49-45 leading and got 20 points from second change opportunities.
The Lancers are coming off a 18-11 season which ended at the hands of the McMaster Marauders (77-67) in the OUA West semi-final.
In last year’s exhibition season, the Lancers split a pair of games with Oakland University, with the loss coming in double overtime.
The two teams will meet again Thursday.
