Remember Tyler Richards from St.Francis Xavier?

Back before most of y'all cared about CIS Basketball, Tyler Richards was out there doing work to the tone of 20 points per game.

The Dartmouth product was amongst the top players in the league and the St.Francis Xavier were on the hunt for another Championship when things suddenly went sour.

Richards’s final campaign with the X-Men ended prematurely and in controversy when he and two teammates were charged after a man was punched and kicked in an altercation in Antigonish in February 2009.

He was sentenced in April 2010 to four months of house arrest on a single count of assault causing bodily harm.

In the process Richards and the X-Men squandered a 17-3 AUS season (28-10 overall) and still managed a Final 8 berth via a generous wildcard, but the dream match-up against the Carleton Ravens was hardly competitive as Dave Smart and his crew ran over Coach K in quarter-finals 94-57.

That was the last we heard of Richards, now the Former X star has been given a Golden opportunity to get his basketball career back on track.

“Kids sometimes get off the right track and sometimes need another opportunity and maybe even two," Levingston said.

“He’s always been a really good basketball player and he’s just done the wrong things off the court so I’m giving him this opportunity . . . to prove that he’s serious about basketball again and wants to change his life."

The Rainmen president and CEO, who doubles as general manager of the National Basketball League of Canada club, said he has met frequently with Richards and the 25-year-old understands the terms under which he’s being invited to try out.

“I let it be known I’m not giving him anything. If you’re gonna come in here and make this team, it’s gonna be because you worked hard and you deserved to be on this team.

“I’m not taking no riff-raff. I’m not playing no games with him. The first time that I hear that (he has) done something that (he) should not be doing as a young man is going to end our relationship."
