With Nik Stauskas on board Michigan Wolverines Looking to Build Canadian Basketball Pipeline
Over the past five years we've seen NCAA Men's basketball teams try to take advantage of the great basketball talent that Canada is producing.
Gonzaga Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, and New Mexico State are names that should be familiar to Canadian supporters of the NCAA route.
Another team looking to get in the mix is the Michigan Wolverines.
Nik Staukas a sharp-shooting Canadian is set to make his debut this year and the Wolverines coaching staff is looking to leverage his impact to bring more Canadians.
Michigan appears to be involved in the recruitment of three Canadian players: 2013 swingman Donnavan Hastings, 2014 big Jabari Craig, and a 2016 do-it-all phenom by the name of Justin Jackson. We caught up with Vidal Massiah, the director of the Canadian AAU program Northern Kings. Massiah spoke with us about all three prospects — Hastings and Craig are both a part of the Northern Kings program. Jackson is not a member of the Kings but Massiah is familiar with his recruitment because Jackson attends Eastern Commerce High School, where Massiah (a former Canadian national team player) played high school basketball and remains connected.
Located just about five hours from Toronto, the Wolverines have a clear advantage over some the other NCAA schools in building a strong Canadian pipeline.
