Toronto Basketball Coach Jordan Paolucci Charged With Multiple Counts Of Child Pornography

Toronto, ON - (BasketballBuzz) - Toronto Basketball Coach Jordan Cristoferi-Paolucci Founder and Director of the Etobicoke Basketball Association has been charged with multiple counts of child pornography.

According to police reports released today Paolucci's home was searched on Wednesday May 29, 2013 by the Child Exploitation division and now faces 10 charges in connection to child pornography and luring allegations.

Police allege the accused received images from boys under 18 years old and compensated them for the pictures.

A court appearance has be scheduled for July 12, 2013.

Cristoferi−Paolucci, (24), is a coach for the Etobicoke Basketball Association, Founder and Director of the BOLT Basketball Elite Development Program, Regional Stakeholder Representative – Ranking and Seeding Committee Member for the Ontario Basketball Association, previously a coach for the Toronto Raptors Basketball Academy and an official for the Toronto Association of Basketball Officials (TABO), Ottawa Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials (OVBABO) and the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO).

The charges come at a time when Canadian Basketball can't seem to get enough praise. It seems like day in day out the news gets better, unfortunately situations like these are black eyes to the Toronto community at large and demands for a call of action from leadership at the top.

In 2012 the CBC's (Canada's Public Broadcaster) Fifth Estate program went undercover and investigated the Toronto/Canadian AAU Basketball scene focusing on Ro Russell and the Grassroots program.

The documentary seemed to specifically target Ro Russell and drew plenty of criticism all-around, specifically for failing to look at other areas, programs which were perhaps violating, or in this case putting innocent children and their families in contact with what we will refer as extreme shady behavior.

Although the allegations/exposure against Grassroots and Ro Russell we're unrelated to anything like what Paolucci and the Etobicoke Thunder Association are facing, it certainly opened everybody's eyes to what's becoming a growing problem in the Canadian basketball community.

There's absolutely no doubt that this case will further raise the question, "What are the National & Provincial basketball organizations doing to ensure that coaches and programs are compliant, properly screened prior to starting out, what seems to be an endless amount of basketball programs that are popping up faster than dandelions across Canada.

According to additional reports, Jane Shapiro, a spokesperson for the Etobicoke Basketball Association, said the association sent out an email to the parents of all children playing for Etobicoke Basketball first thing Friday morning, notifying them of the situation and assuring them that the accused is no longer coaching for them."

“The association is deeply troubled by the events surrounding Mr. Paolucci,” she said. “As soon as we became aware of this matter, Mr. Paolucci was suspended and is no longer working for the association.

Andrew Wiggins Graduates From Huntington Prep, Sincerely Thanks Community

Not that we need any more Andrew Wiggins news but this is well worth the archive.

Andrew Wiggins has officially completed his high school career by graduating from Huntington Prep/St.Joe.

In a sincerely letter to his coaches, community and the families that took him in during his time in West Virginia.

Class act, by a Class guy. The guy is after all Canadian and raised by good parents, so this totally expected from Wiggins.

o the people and community of Huntington:

I just wanted to thank Huntington for your support for me and my Huntington Prep teammates and coaches these past two years. Without the community, none of what has been accomplished would have been attainable. I hope that when you hear or read my name, you are proud to say I played my high school days here in Huntington. Because I am proud to say I played here.

I like to represent my hometown of Thornhill, Ontario, and my country of Canada in a positive light and I will do the same for Huntington and for my team and coaches of Huntington Prep. It has been such a positive experience and I would advise any player to come to Huntington Prep.

I am from Canada and I am going to Kansas to play college basketball. I will hopefully be drafted to a city that I enjoy. But I will always have a place for Huntington in my heart and memories. I will not forget all the sacrifices they made for me and my teammates. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely,

Andrew Wiggins

Ottawa - (BasketballBuzz) - St. Patrick's Irish Guard Roydell Clark shut down the 2013 Ottawa National Capital High School All-Star Game with this huge cock-back dunk over his defender - Adam Constazo (Nepean High School) during the 2013 Ottawa High School All-Star Game at Ravens Nest at Carleton University.

Clark (Class 2013) is a shifty left guard with major bunnies and played an integral role in the Fighting Irish run towards a silver medal at the 2013 OFSAA AAA High School Basketball championships held in Windsor, this past March.

A Guide to the Andrew Wiggins Announcement and/or Apocalypse

How good is Andrew Wiggins?
Depending on who you ask and where you saw him play, he is either Harrison Barnes 2.0 (overrated no. 1 prospect destined to tantalize but ultimately drive college fans insane) or something like Kevin Durant 2.0 (the next NBA superstar, limitless potential, future member of the Illuminati, etc.). For now, let's say he's something in between. Probably not good enough to justify all this hype, but definitely good enough to make a dent in college hoops next year and turn just about any school into a contender.

Highly Touted Saskatchewan Native Trey Lyles Won't Decide Until Spring 2014

He originally committed to Indiana back in September 2010, when he was just finishing his freshman year in high school.

Lyles reopened back in August and ever since, there has been no shortage of speculation, or suitors for Lyles’ services. He’s trimmed his list down to a top six: Butler, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, and UCLA.

Perhaps because he committed so early, he’s targeting a decision in the spring of 2014.

“I talk to every school weekly,” he said. “It’s all even right now—there’s no one in front of the other or anything like that. All the schools I’ve got have great coaches, they all care about you and what what’s best for your development.”

Though Butler would seem to be the cinderella of those options, Lyles attested to the strength of Brad Stevens’ Big East-bound program. The Bulldogs are in the mix for several elite prospects in the class of 2014.

No Pressure: Class 2018 Canadian 6'4 Guard Shakur Danier Advertised as Better Than Wiggins

Let the "I Got Next", "He Got Next" or the "Next Wiggins" phrase start popping up everywhere. In this case, here is what we believe is the first of many declarations.

According to Russell, class of 2018 backcourt prospect Shakur Daniel certainly has a chance to be that player, if he continues to progress. When asked how the 6-foot-4 swingman compares to the best players he has coached over the years, Russell replied without hesitation,

“Skill-wise, at this stage in his development, Shakur [Daniel] is the best that I’ve seen.”

So who is this young man that Russell speaks so highly of? Daniel is an Ajax, Ontario resident, who made his national debut in the United States last summer at the ‘Future of the Game East’ camp, hosted by John Lucas in Hampton, Virginia. There the Canadian youngster displayed the ability to play all five positions on the floor. Most that have seen Daniel would agree that versatility is the trademark of his game, not in a sense that he has trouble fitting a position, but because he is naturally gifted enough to perform any task asked of him on the court.

“He can do it all,” said Russell of Daniel. “He is quick, athletic, can collect rebounds and bring the ball up the court himself. He takes pride on defense and can defend the other team’s best player. This guy is a gym rat and is always working on his game. Shakur [Daniel] makes an impact in almost every possible way.”

Russell went as far to say that Daniel could become the best player that Canada has produced. That bestowal may be difficult to concur with when considering the acclaim that Andrew Wiggins has gained as the consensus number one high school player in the world this year.

Canadians Andrew Wiggins & Tyler Ennis Continue To Impress At 2013 Jordan Classic All-American Game

BROOKLYN, NY - (BasketballBuzz) - The history of Canadian basketball players and the Jordan Brand Classic All-American Game is getting deep.

Names like Myck Kabongo, Anthony Bennett, Tristan Thompson, Khem Birch, have paved the way for the new generation in the Annual High School Showcase.

Add Andrew Wiggins and his teammate Tyler Ennis to the trendsetters list, as both Canadians equally had the opportunity to earn MVP despite the East's close 102-98 loss to a talented West squad that featured number-two ranked player Jabari Parker.

Both Wiggins and Ennis made a strong case for the MVP award with the number one player in the 2013 Class, Andrew Wiggins tying a game-high 19 points and Tyler as always, showed his all-around game with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists in the losing effort.

Julius Randle (19 points & 7 rebounds) and Jabari Parker (16 points and 7 rebounds) were both named MVP's for their outstanding work.

For Wiggins, much like the McDonald's American Game, the Canadian picked his spots, threw down some monster dunks, four to be exact, and without showing too much of his arsenal he nearly became the first Canadian to grab MVP - if it wasn't for Julius Randle late push.

The same can be said for Syracuse bound Tyler Ennis who also played with chip on his shoulder after getting snubbed by the MacDonald's All-American Game committee.

Ennis found himself open for a change to win the game in the dying seconds but his three-pointer just came up short.

Wiggins will now wrap his high school career with one last appearance at the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit in Portland Oregon where he will try to lead the World Select team to its second straight victory over Team USA. and Hopefully and MVP award after just coming up short with silent but efficient 19-point performance at the at 36th Annual McDonald's All-American Game.

Aaron Gordon Aerial Assault Earns MVP, Andrew Wiggins Shines At 2013 McDonald's All-American Game

CHICAGO, IL (BasketballBuzz) - Arizona commit Aaron Gordon put on an Aerial assault with nine dunks on his way to a game-high 24 points and MVP honors as the West defeated the East 110-99 at the 2013 and 36th McDonald's All-American Game at the United Center.

Gordon's (6-8, 220lbs) size and freakish athleticism were on full display for Team West as the Arizona Wildcats recruit put on a show with nine impressive dunks that are sure to continue the comparisons to the Clippers Blake Griffin.

The number one player in the class of 2013, Canadian Andre Wiggins (Vaughn, ON/ Huntington Prep) continued his upwards stream towards greatness by putting together a silent 19 points on the biggest stage of high school basketball.

Majority of Wiggins team-high points came from the foul line where he went 7-of-8. On a night were all eyes on the next crop on NBA stars Wiggins played calm and didn't force much shooting also a team best 6-of-10 from the floor to lead the East in scoring in 24 minutes.

Wiggins who also added four rebounds and two steals seemed most engaged when matched up against Jabari Parker the #2-ranked player in the 2013 Class.

The two future NBA players guarded each other for much of the night with Wiggins forcing the hometown star (Simeon/Chicago) and Duke signee to pick up four fouls in the process.

Parker helped his team by showing his all-around touch around the basket and finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals while propelling the West to victory.

“[The matchup against Wiggins] went pretty good,” Parker said. “He is super athletic so I had to overcommit on the drive but then he can shoot so it was really difficult.”

“Me and Jabari, we are friends, both great players,” Wiggins said. “I know I’m going to see his face a lot at the next level and the level after that. I consider it a great learning experience. I’m just glad to be here. Going against Jabari is just the best going against the best.”

Like the case in most all-star games its tough to gauge a players full potential, but in Wiggins case, like in so many other occasions, be it Canadian or American high school, AAU circuit or international FIBA competition, it was once again clearly evident that the road to the 2014 NBA overall pick is still secure despite his minimal showing.

The athleticism, the spin move and rawness that we've all become accustomed to seeing were one minimal display and, minus a missed routine dunk, a free-throw and a few more minutes we once again witness the number player in the 2013 class prove that hes worth all the buzz.

For Wiggins the All-Star showcase continues as the Canadian will try to lead the World Team to a victory at the 2013 Jordan Brand Classic International Game on April 13th at the Barclay's Centre in Brooklyn New York.
