Marketing Done Right: Jay-Z & Samsung Set Social Media A Blaze (VIDEO)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B--ZARCwSIE

For many years brands have been afraid to tap into the power and influence of the Hip-Hop culture, it's marriage with the game of basketball and its overall influence.

If you know basketball, then you probably know Jay-Z, and when it comes to Electronics you probably currently own or previously owned a Samsung product.

Now, tie the two together and mix it all up by dropping a three minute bombshell commercial just as half-time hit of a must watch Game 5 of the 2013 NBA Final series between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.

The result?

"Instant Buzz" across social media channels.

The purpose of the commercial really didn't set until the 1:00 mark, which left many wondering what that hell was going one.

Everything clicked when Jay-Z aka the Jigga man uttered the words "We put the album out on July 4th."

Brilliant!

"Magna Carta Holy Grail" - Jay-Z's twelve studio album and will drop on the Fourth of July, The USA's most memorable day, Independence Day.

In and era where the old rules no longer apply brands, artists have to be creative to create buzz and stand out as Jay-Z himself stated:

"We don't have any rules, everybody is trying to figure it out," he says. "That's why the internet is like the Wild West. The Wild Wild West. We need to write the new rules."

The video features some of the heavyweight producers (Rick Rubin, Timberland, Swizz Beats & artist Pharrell Williams) in the game as they showcase the creative process of putting together Shawn Carter's latest effort.

As part of the deal Samsung will provide one million Galaxy S3, S4 and Note owners with a free copy of the album 72 hours ahead of its scheduled released date, as long as they download a custom app which allows them exclusive access into the making of Magna Carta.

The deal makes sense for both parties. Jay-z moves a million copies at 5 dollars apiece even before the album drops.

Samsung now has the top heavyweight influencer in the music biz and paired with his recent investments in the Brooklyn Nets and the opening of RocNation sports agency they will continue to grab market share of the growing mobile & tablet space which was once dominated by Apple.

Most def. As one of the comments on the channel said, "I give this alley-oop a pi² score."

I'm no mathematician but just about everything has to right for this dunk to be pulled off.

According to the video description:

Pat The Roc to G.Smith with a soccer-inspired over the head pass off the backboard with a sick finishing dunk. Needless to say, this earned a perfect score of 50

The Iran Job

Toronto, ON - As part of their ongoing series, All Balls Don't Bounce is pleased to announce the Toronto screening of director Till Schauder's latest documentary, The Iran Job, on November 14 at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema. The highly acclaimed film, which recently had its Canadian premiere at the Vancouver Film Festival, chronicles the journey of American Kevin Sheppard as he pursues a career playing basketball in one of the world's most volatile nations. Filmmaker, Schauder travelled overseas to document Sheppard's struggles adapting to a different culture where Schauder was eventually blacklisted from entering Iran entirely.

The Iran Job follows Sheppard as he attempts to separate sports from politics only to find that politics is impossible to escape in Iran. Along the way he forms an unlikely alliance with three outspoken Iranian women and thanks to these women, his apartment turns into an oasis of free speech where they discuss everything from politics to religion to gender roles. Kevin's season in Iran culminates in something much bigger than basketball: the uprising and subsequent suppression of Iran's reformist Green Movement - a powerful prelude to the sweeping changes across the Middle East in the wake of the Arab Spring.
