Two Canadians in the NBA finals?

Yes, Cory Joseph (San Antonio Spurs) & Joel Anthony (Miami Heat).

One from Pickering, ON, the other from Montreal, QC.

The mothers of both Anthony and Joseph spoke to National Post basketball reporter Eric Koreen from San Antonio this week about their sons’ paths to the periphery of basketball’s biggest stage.

“The celebration [after last year’s championship] was all night long. It was just wonderful. The energy was just phenomenal … I have a photograph with myself and Joel holding the [Larry O'Brien] Trophy. We went to the owner’s office to get that photograph taken.

“My favourite memory? I know one of the most exciting ones was when I wasn’t at the game. But I had a bunch of family and friends over to watch when Texas was playing North Carolina. That shot that he hit, it was crazy in the house. It was great.

Kawhi Leonard's Defense Helps Spurs Contain LeBron James In Game 1 On 2013 NBA Finals

The awesome responsibility of defending the world's best player didn't faze the second-year swingman in the least.

Leonard was the point man in San Antonio's defense of James, who scored a playoff-low 18 points in the Spurs' 92-88 victory over the Miami Heat in Game 1 on Thursday night.

Leonard hounded James all night long, chasing him around the perimeter and forcing him to look to pass first. Leonard also had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a stellar finals debut.

France's Tony Parker Doubtful for 2012 London Summer Olympics

Dreams money can buy. It looks like the real losers of the Drake vs. Chris Brown beef is none other than France and their star point guard Tony Parker.

Caught in the middle of a night club scuffle between Toronto born hip-hop artist Drake and R&B singer Chris Brown, Parker and France's opportunity of making any noise at the summer Olympic showcase is in serious jeopardy.

The San Antonio Spurs guard was injured in a New York nightclub 10 days ago and said he eventually had to undergo surgery to have a shard of glass removed from his eye, which he was at risk of losing.

Parker had expected to be back training after a week-long rest but said on Sunday he was still sidelined and may have to withdraw from the London Games.

"As required by the Spurs, I will go back to the U.S. on July 5... I will visit a specialist in New York, hoping he will give the green light to compete at the Games," Parker said on his official website (www.tp9.net).

"The Spurs are very worried. Depending on the (examination) results, a withdrawal is possible. The decision is not mine anymore, it is up to the doctor and the Spurs."

Parker will be out of action pending the doctor's decision, so will miss four warm-up matches. He will be available only from July 7 if he is given the green light to play.

Spurs' Gregg Popovich Is the 2011-12 NBA Coach of the Year

Gregg Popovich was selected as the NBA's Coach of the Year after leading the San Antonio Spurs to 50 wins and the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference in the lockout-shortened season.

Popovich also won the award in 2003 when San Antonio won its second of four championships, and he might be headed for a fifth ring if the Spurs keep this up. No longer able to simply lean on Tim Duncan and defense, Popovich has nonetheless molded another contender with a surprising supporting cast of rookies and former NBA no-names.
