Fighting Irish & Natalie Achonwa To Play For NCAA Basketball Women's Championship
Natalie Achonwa (Guelph, Ontario) and the Notre Dame Fighting Women's Basketball Team defeated arch-nemesis Connecticut, 83-75 in overtime, to advance to the 2012 NCAA women's basketball championship.
The Fighting Irish will meet the undefeated Baylor Bears or on Tuesday for the title.
Achonwa a member of the Canadian senior women's national team finished with 8 points and 7 seven rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench while going 4-of-5 from the floor and picking three steals in the process.
In five tournament games the Guelph native, nicknamed "Ace" has averaged 9 points and five rebounds and has seen her role and playing time increase after scoring 18 points in a elite eight victory over the Maryland Terrapins.
