Regina Cougars dismantle Victoria Vikes
The University of Victoria Vikes reign as the No. 1 women's basketball team in Canada will not last long.
After sweeping the Fraser Valley Cascades last weekend, the Vikes pushed their record to 8-0 and Canadian Interuniversity Sport coaches deemed them to be the best.
However, after last night's performance at McKinnon Gym, UVic's ranking will fall.
The No. 3 ranked Regina Cougars dismantled the Vikes 72-49, handing UVic its first loss of the season and ending a 17-game regular-season winning streak. The Cougars improved to 7-0.
"When you are the No. 1 team in Canada, there is a big target on your backs,'' said Regina coach Dave Taylor. "There was no pressure on us coming here and our team was just excited about playing.
"UVic earned that No. 1 ranking and they have a veteran team and I'm sure that they will bounce back.
