Phil Dixon Toronto’s Original Basketball Prodigy

The words phenom and prodigy should always be used carefully and with caution. Labeling a player a prodigy or phenom comes with all sorts of expectations and failure to live-up to those expectations sometimes leads to negative backlash.

This is not the case for Toronto’s Phil Dixon!

Before there was Andrew Wiggins there was Phil Dixon! A once in a generation player that was primed for greatness and a potential NBA career.

Unfortunately, for Dixon a terrible leg injury cut his career short ending his dreams of ever dribbling his way on to a NBA basketball court. The video is part of SportsChek’s new #MyNorth campaign which coincides with the start of the Toronto Raptors 20th anniversary season.

The campaign, aims to unite nine of Toronto’s neighborhoods of Brampton, Markham,  Vaughan, North York, York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Scarborough and Toronto – by spotlighting and sharing authentic stories and court culture under the banner.
