Check it out.
May we divert your attention above to the featured image of this article? This has got to be one of our favourite pictures of new Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant.
Oh wait a minute…that’s not a real photo! Free Agent signing K.D. hasn’t even laced them up for the Dubs yet!
That’s an image from the forthcoming NBA 2K17 game. Available on all platforms that can handle graphics as great as this. 2K16 was sweet, but now you don’t even have to squint to see that this looks as real as it gets in the video game world. From the facial frowns to the sweat soak, as soon as 2K works out the seams of the uniforms, you won’t be able to tell the difference between the C.G.I. and the flesh and blood suiting up.
I’m sorry EA Sports, but if it wasn’t already evident, you’re no longer in the game.
Because 2K changed it…and then flipped it again like a reverse off the backboard glass.
Coming to a console near your living room soon, 2K17 just debutted a thrilling trailer as exciting as a blockbuster movie one. And for want of a better franchise it really is a Marvel in a digital day and age where video games are grossing even more than feature films…and even influencing them (see ‘Warcraft’ if you really want to sit through that…we’d prefer to wait for Michael Fassbender’s forthcoming adaptation of ‘Assassins Creed’ in cinemas though).
Sure when it comes to the court of basketball nothing beats the real thing. But then again where else can you watch fresh moves from Kobe Bryant-no hardwood history highlight reel-now number 24 has hung up the purple and gold to the awaiting rafters? In this legend edition with the Laker great on the cover (complete with signature Mamba black controls and trading cards for the old school head, original gamers), you can even rock his gear all the way to the 8 throwback. And match-up with his and everybodies idol, Michael Jordan. G.O.A.T. for greatest of all-time.
Olympic Gold Medalist for Team USA Paul George takes the standard cover like he does all the first names, but there’s nothing regular about this as the trailer can attest like Ron minus the ‘R’. The attention to detail is thread for weave flawless. From the Pacer blimp to the 50 year Indiana anniversary jersey detail, as homaged as last years Hickory. You can even catch a blast of the Boomer the Panther mascot, shotgunning apparel tee’d up into the crowd.
Bang!
From the MVP to the champ the most impressive looking player may just be Los Angeles Lakers sophomore stud D’Angelo Russell. One moment in the trailer with fire breathed into it by an Imagine Dragons hit off the Las Vegas casino rockers sophomore set ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ is as neon vivid as your most inspired imagination could handle. All the way down to his trademark “ice in my veins” arm-tap celebration. It’s the coldest.
The virtual world has just hit a whole new reality.
This ‘Friction’ trailer is really creating heat.
You can’t fight it!
