Canada Trims 2019 Fiba World Cup Roster To 19 Players

Canada basketball has announced the final 19 players that will attended training camp and eventually make-up the final 12-men roster for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

The list includes a slew of changes from the original list of 29 players that featured 17 a record NBA players under contract — and is major disappointment and severe blow for Canada’s hopes of earning a medal at the 2019 World Cup and automatic qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Missing NBA Talent

Canada will now be without the following NBA players for the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup: Jamal Murray, Tristan Thompson, Dwight Powell, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dillon Brooks, Trey Lyles, R.J. Barrett, Brandon Clarke, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Mfiondu Kabengele, Marial Shayok, Luguentz Dort.

Jamal Murray originally intended to play but picked an ankle injury in the past few days and opted to sit out. RJ Barrett also opted to rest a Summer League injury and was ruled out before the final 19 training camp roster was released.

New Additions

New additions include rising stud, 18 year-old Addison Patterson as well a Kaza Kajami-Keane, Duane Notice, Aaron Best and Eugene Omoruyi.

Canada will host a short two-day (August 4-5th) training camp before playing two exhibition games against Nigeria on home soil.
