The most talented youth team ever assembled by USA Basketball clobbered Canada 111-60 in the quarter-finals of the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey.
Led by a trio of six-foot-eight potential NBA lottery picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, five American players scored in double figures. Every single American player contributed at least four points and played nearly ten minutes.
AJ Dybantsa led with 18 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Cameron Boozer contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Koa Peat added 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals.
For the second straight game, Canada was led by the backcourt duo of Miles Sadler and Jordan Charles. Sadler finished with 14 points, four assists, and three steals on 6-of-13 shooting, while Charles continued to play well for Canada with his fourth double-digit game, contributing 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Quinten Ethier contributed 8 points and 2 rebounds, while Mahliq Guiseppi-Kitson and Kole Grandison each added 7 points to the team’s tally.
Canada turned the ball over 37 times and made just 26 field goals in 40 minutes, with 13 of those turnovers coming in the first quarter, when the Canadians struggled to inbound the ball after made baskets.
The USA jumped out to a 19-2 lead and found themselves up 37-12 after the first ten minutes. They dominated Canada 29-15 in the second quarter and 27-14 in the third.
Showing no signs of mercy, the Americans continued their onslaught to push the lead to over 30 points, and a 66-27 halftime lead set the record for most points scored in the first half of a FIBA U17 World Cup.
The Americans’ fast break points pushed the lead to 50 points by the midpoint of the third quarter and reached a game-high 57 points on a three-pointer by Chris Cencan at 98-41 early in the fourth quarter, which saw Canada outscore the USA 19-18.
Canada (3-2) will now advance to the qualification round, where they will face Lithuania to compete for 5th to 8th place.
