A Golden State of mind for Stephen Curry and The Bay’s 2025 All-Star Weekend

The NBA has been concocting all-new recipes to improve the All-Star Game, but in the end, it was the chef who cooked in The Bay

The NBA’s Super Bowl needs Kendrick Lamar for its halftime show.

When it comes to the NBA’s mid-February showcase between the Grammys and Oscars, it’s not like the NFL.

Say, Adam Silver! How are you going to improve the former Best of the West versus Beast of the East game that’s becoming as competitive as a Harlem Globetrotters contest?

At this point, most people would rather watch the New York Nationals

Even legendary hoops’ scribe Scoop Jackson penned an article for the Chicago Tribune, saying he wasn’t really messing with this year’s game.

This writer still does, though. What can I say? I also continue to enjoy Marvel movies.

This year’s revamped All-Star Game in the Golden State of San Francisco, California featured a new format of a mini-tournament. One won by Warrior superstar and NBA All-Star Game Kobe Bryant, Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry and his All-Star team in his Bay home

Scoring a total of 20 points in the two-game tournament at San Francisco’s Chase Center, Curry has now doubled-up on regular-season and All-Star Game MVPs to go with his finals one and all those rings.

With half court heaves and downtown delights, Steph Curry with the shot led Shaq’s OGs past Candace’s Rising Stars (42-35) before beating Chuck’s Global Stars, 41-25 in the title game.

Now, if you’re wondering what you just read, that’s the new format, folks! I know they said, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it,” and this is clearly broken—like the hearts of those Valentines returned to sender—but do you remember the NBA Slam Dunk Contest wheel?

Exactly!

Those team names may have been a nice nod to the TNT crew in their final year, but even Shaq felt too old for this mess, like Danny Glover in ‘Lethal Weapon’. Explicitly.

At least the Magic of Mac McClung hit the three-peat on this year’s Slam-Dunk Contest. Meanwhile, Miami Heat hero Tyler Herro brought the buckets like his former teammate, now in the Bay Area, during a Starry like Van Gogh three-point contest.

Elsewhere, Team C became the 2025 Castrol Rising Stars after beating Team G in the league. As the MVP, the Spurs’ Stephon Castle will meet Curry and company on Sunday.

For the Celebrity Game, Rome Flynn (*checks Google*) won MVP honours with 22 points and plenty of “Chicago Fire” for Team Bonds, who beat Team Rice 66–55.

In the fourth annual NBA HBCU Classic, possibly the purest thing this weekend, Tuskegee University prevailed over Morehouse College, 68–55, thanks to 22 points from Golden Tiger Kusamae Draper.

The most technical part of this weekend belonged to the sword of the Cavaliers, who won the Skills Challenge. A former participant, LeBron and his son declined to team up in this event. The King would also miss the main event due to an ankle injury.

Yet he did congratulate Carmelo Anthony, who joined fellow former Lakers Dwight Howard and Marc Gasol in California as Hall of Fame finalists, honoring their iconic careers with the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, and Memphis Grizzlies respectively.

WNBA legends Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles, and Chamique Holdsclaw will also headline the class of 2025.

Oh, and a fan beat Damian Lillard to win $100,000 in the MrBeast Logo Shot Challenge.

Stop the clock! What is happening to the NBA All-Star Weekend?

Hey, it’s all in the name of fun!

Luka, LeBron, and LA, what have you got? Is the NBA rolling out LBJ’s last ASG in LA?

It’s only going to get more Hollywood from here to 2026.
