B.C. won its fourth consecutive wheelchair basketball national team title Sunday.
Team B.C. beat Ontario 68-56 in the title game played at the University of Saskatchewan.
B.C. was led to its victory by a 21-point effort from Erik Hagreen, who also contributed 13 rebounds. Richard Peter of Duncan — a member of Canada’s senior men’s national squad — added 20 points and six assists for the winners.
Adam Lancia, another national team member, scored 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists to pace Ontario.
Lancia was named tourney MVP. B.C. has now been on the national championship podium for eight straight seasons.
Both Canada’s men’s and women’s national teams are preparing to defend their gold medals at the upcoming world wheelchair basketball championships July 5-7 in Birmingham, England.
