Dillon Brooks promised and delivered, against a former teammate who declined to play for the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Canadian guard reminded Andre Iguodala what Memphis basketball is all about, scoring 23 points of his 28 points in the third-quarter as the Grizzlies beat the Miami Heat 124-112 on the road.
Brook’s third-quarter barrage accounted for the second-most points scored in a quarter in Memphis Grizzlies franchise history.
The veteran Iguodala, never played for the Grizzlies after being included in a salary-dump trade with the Golden State Warriors.
According to Iguodala, he never refused to play for the Grizzlies, instead he came a mutual agreement with Memphis as they looked to find a suitable trade partner.
Last season, with Iguodala away from the team, Brooks didn’t mince any words while discussing the situation during a post-game interview.
“A guy that’s on our team doesn’t want to be on our team, I can’t wait until we find a way to trade him, so we can play him, and I can show him what really Memphis is about.”
In the first match-up between the two teams since those comments, Brook’s 23 third-quarter points helped keep the Heat at bay as the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to three games.
