Canadians flood 2021 NCAA transfer portal in record numbers

The new transfer rules have changed college basketball forever, opening up the floodgates for a record number of Canadian NCAA basketball players to transfer and explorer new opportunities without the need to sit out the full-year.

Years of mounting public pressure from athlete-rights advocate groups and lawmakers, combined with complications from the ongoing Coronavirus global pandemic, have finally forced the NCAA to change its outdated transfer policy for student-athletes.

The NCAA Division I Council approved a motion that will allow undergraduate student-athletes the opportunity to transfer to a different school once during their career without being penalized and forced to sit out a full year.

The new transfer rules, combined with the growing number of Canadians playing college basketball, has resulted in an NBA like free-agency rush — opening up the floodgates for a record number of Canadian NCAA basketball players to explore new opportunities.

Below is the complete and most updated list of Canadian basketball players who have entered their name in the NCAA’s transfer portal.

The list features Marcus Carr, the top Canadian NCAA scorer and also includes three (Ahmed Ali, Michael Nuga, Emanuel Miller) other top ten scores from the shortened and unexpected 2020-21 season.
