The Lightning and Halifax Rainmen, the No. 1 and No. 2 team in the National Basketball League of Canada, squared off Saturday in front of 2,882 at the John Labatt Centre.
It took a massive effort from the Lightning, who came back from 17 points down, to defeat the Rainmen 97-87.
By the end of it, the crowd was roaring, every Lightning player on the floor was urging more noise, coach Micheal Ray Richardson was stretching his styling brown suit to the max with fist pumps and Gabe Freeman was standing on the scorers table waving his arms igniting the crowd to greater noise.
They responded by chanting “MVP, MVP, MVP.”

It was his second big game in a row, finishing with 29 points, 22 rebounds, three blocks and four steals. He played all 48 minutes.
Taylor King, Lightning forward, came by the score table and checked out the stats.
“Gabe, 29, 22, oh my god,” he said.
