Canadian Guard Marcus Carr (Toronto, Ont.) exploded for a career-high 35 points as unranked Minnesota Golden Golphers opened the 2019 Big Ten conference action with an eye-opening 84-71 win over previously undefeated and third-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Carr a 6’2″, 195-pound redshirt sophomore scored 28 of his game-high 35 points in the second-half on 12-of-17 (70.5%) shooting, 3-of-6 from three-pointers and a nearly perfect 8-of-9 from the foul-line including a game-high 38 minutes.

The win is the Golden Golphers first over a top 5 team since 2013.

Carr started his NCAA basketball career with the Pittsburgh Panthers — playing one season under now retired head coach Kevin Stallings who went 0-18 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in a controversial filled 2017-2018.

Despite the turmoil the then freshman showcased moments of brilliance including a memorable 16 point, 12 assist game against the Syracuse Orange.

Now under the tutelage of veteran head coach Richard Pitino — the son of legendary NCAA coach Rick Pitino — the former Montverde Academy product is flourishing — averaging 13 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds for the Golphers.

Carr’s career-high performance is amongst the best by a Canadian during current 2019-2020 season — trailing only Nova Scotia’s Nate Darling’s 37 point outburst.
