Toronto’s Tristan Thompson has been awarded the Big 12 freshman of the year award.
The Texas Longhorns forward averaged 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds and helped guide the Texas Longhorns to the top of the rankings. He compiled at total of 7 double-doubles.
Thompson was also named to the all-defensive team, 2nd team all-conference as well as all-rookie team.
Long time teammate Cory Joseph was given an honourable mention for his fine first season and a nod on the all-conference rookie team.
Both Canadian basketball players will play a huge role in the upcoming days as Texas looks to make a deep 2011 March Madness run.
