OTTAWA, ON (BasketballBuzz) – The Carleton Ravens inched closer to a record ninth CIS Men’s Basketball championship by dispatching the #5 seed Acadia Axemen 83-66 to advance to the 2013 CIS Final 8 Championship game.
The Scrubb brothers carried much of the load for the Ravens with two-time National player of the year Phillip Scrubb finishing with a game-high 26 points on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond arc. Thomas Scrubb once again showed why he has been one the top players in the second-half of the year by adding 20 points respectively to along with his five rebounds.
Former Moser winner Tyson Hinz had his best showing of the 2013 Final 8 with a strong double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Axemen who came into the game sporting a two-game losing streak to Ravens got a respectable effort from All-Canadian forward Owen Klassen with 17 points and six rebounds.
Ottawa native and former Guardmen’s player Sean Stoqua had huge fourth quarter by scoring 14 of his team-high 20 points in the period.
The Ravens clamped down the Acadia’s shooters limiting them to just 8-of-23 from three-pointers.
The rebounding edge went the Ravens way with a 50-34 advantage.
The two-time defending champions will look for a three-peat when they square off against the #7 Lakehead Thunderwolves in the Championship game.
