Ottawa – (BasketballBuzz) – The quest for a 10th National Championship is well under way for head coach Dave Smart and the defending CIS Men’s Basketball champions Carleton Ravens.
Playing in their second of four games against NCAA competition the visiting Texas Christian University found out just why the Ravens are Canada’s best University basketball team, as Carleton cruised past TCU 77-51 to pick up their second straight victory over NCAA Division I team.
Tyson Hinz was simply too much for the younger TCU squad. The 6’7 Ottawa Forward carved up the Horned Frogs with 24 points, 8 rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting and went 7-of-8 from the foul line. Starting point guard Philip Scrubb, was in the line-up, but came off the bench to score 13 points in 25 minutes of action.
Scrubb arrived in Ottawa earlier in the day after playing heavy minutes (25) in a 77-72 win against Jamaica for Canada Senior Men’s National Team.
“It was big, I think both Scrubb’s were a little rusty, it wasn’t their best games, Phil was with Team Canada and came back for one day, its tough, you miss a week of practice, we don’t mess around in our practices.” expressed Hinz after the game on the return of the two-time CIS Player of the Year.
“But its good to have him back, he drives a lot of attention and he makes my job easier.”
Thomas Scrubb continues to make a case for the Ravens best all-around player adding a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
TCU was anchored by 5’11 Junior Guard Kyan Anderson who finished with a team-high 12 points, three other Horned Frogs players reached double-figures with Charles Hill netting 11 points and Jarvis Ray and Hudson Price adding 10 points respectively.
TCU Head Coach Trent Johnson was tossed from the game late in second half after picking up his second technical foul of the game.
Carleton went an usual 5-of-21 from beyond arc, connected on 16-of-19 foul shots and shared the ball well on their way to picking up 17 assists. TCU had a difficult time breaking down the Ravens defensively picking only 6 assists compared to 15 turnovers.
The Ravens (2-0) will now take on the Wisconsin Badgers (BIG 10) on Wednesday August 21 before wrapping the NCAA portion of the schedule against the Syracuse Orange on Friday August 23rd. TCU falls to 0-2 on their Canadian tour and will visit Montreal for a game against Montréal All-Stars at Brebeuf College before heading back to Texas.
