Junior Guard Philip Scrubb was unstoppable on his way to a game-high 32 points to lead the Carleton Ravens to a 78-65 victory over the Alberta Golden Bears in rematch of the 2012 CIS Men’s basketball championship game at 2012 Guy Vetrie tournament hosted by Victoria Vikes.
The 2012 Moser winner (League MVP) and BasketballBuzz CIS Men’s Player of the year was in full form as he connected on 7-of-13 three-pointers, dished out seven assists and pulled seven rebounds.
Danner Penner was the only other Ravens player in double-figures with 11 points.
Jordan Baker was the top player for Alberta with a team-high 22 points, six rebounds, five assists.
Similar to 2012 Final championship game, the Ravens jumped ahead early and never looked back, grabbing a 16-11 advantage after the first quarter, and stretching it out to a 43-30 lead at half-time.
Alberta, a team that lost it’s starting point guard (Daniel Ferguson, 19 PPG) to graduation struggled on the offensive end but managed to cut the lead to single digits with just under 2 minutes thanks to 2-3 zone.
Scrubb’s seven three-pointers alone were more than the whole Alberta team. Carleton shot 15-of-34 from behind the arc, while the Golden Bears went 5-for-19.
The Ravens improve to 7-1 in the preseason with their only defeat coming at the hands of NCAA’s UNLV Rebels, top 25 team. Carleton will face the hosts Victoria Vikes tomorrow night in a battle of two of the most storied CIS Men’s Basketball schools.
