The CIS All-time leading scorer, Boris Bakovic scored a clutch game-high 29 points as the Calgary Dinos came from behind in the late stages of a tight game to earn a well deserved 73-68 victory over the #1 Victoria Vikes.
The victory gives the Dinos a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three Canada West Quarter-Finals and extends the Dinos winning streak to seven-straight games.
The Vikes pulled away early in the fourth-quarter to break-open a tight game and claimed a 62-56 lead with 5:50 remaining to force the Dinos into timeout. For there Calgary started their upward climb by hitting timely shots and securing key defensive rebounds and outscore the Vikes 17-6 to claim the victory.
Bakovic, the author of eleven of those 17 points points helped push the current CIS All-time scoring to 2292 points, and with at least two more games guaranteed the mark should rise will into the 2300’s.
Tyler Fidler’s all-around skills were in full display as he went for 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Ryan Mackinnon was the high-scorer for the Vikes with 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Victoria struggled from the outside with only four made threes, out of their 16 attempts.
Mike Berg was busy under the basket and nearly notched a double-double with 12 points and a team-high eight boards.
The game lived up to its expectations as a packed housed witnessed an evenly played game that featured multiple lead changes and eight tie. The two teams get to do it over again in less than 24 hours for a conference final berth on the line.
