A total of six Canadians have been invited to participate at the 2022 Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Americas camp in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
The eleventh (11th) BWB Americas camp will kick off on Monday, May 16 to Thursday, May 19 at the NBA Academy Latin America.
The 2022 BWB Americas will bring together more than 60 of the top high-school age boys and girls from Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean to learn directly from current and former NBA and FIBA players, legends and coaches and compete alongside their peers from across the region.
The 2022 invitee list features five top Canadian basketball prospects in the class of 2024 that are likely to become household names after a busy summer.
Recent Canadian names to participate at the Basketball Without Borders camp include Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets), Shai Gilgeous Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), Lindell Wigginton (Milwaukee Bucks), Abu Kigab (Boise State), Josh Primo (San Antonio Spurs) and Bennedict Mathruin (Arizona Wildcats).
Jovan Millicevic – Dream City Christian
16-year-old Jovan Millicevic (Toronto, Ont.) is one of the hottest Canadian names on the recruiting circuit. The six-foot-nine stretch forward is averaging 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists per game for Arizona Unity on the Nike U16 EYBL circuit.
Millicevic is shooting 44.9% percent (48-107) from the floor, 48.6% (18-37), from three-pointers and 60.5% from the foul-line.
The Canadian/Serbian big man is currently getting early interest from Arizona State, Oregon and UC Santa Barbara.
Keenan Emmanuel – Woodstock Academy
Keenan Emmanuel (Mississauga, Ont.) is expected to be the main anchor for Canada’s back court at the upcoming 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Spain.
Emmanuel, is a rising six-foot high-major point guard that has a knack for scoring with a combination of floaters, deep three-pointers, pull-jumpers and shifty down hill drives.
Currently stuffing the stat sheet for UPLAY Canada at the 2022 Nike U16 EYBL, Emmanuel is putting up 18 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists per game. An excellent on ball defender that likes to jump passing lanes and get on the open court.
Emmanuel is already getting offers from Syracuse, UConn, and UCLA.
Christian Nitu – Royal Crown Academic
Christian Nitu (Toronto, Ont.) after missing the 2021 U16 FIBA Americas for personal reasons, the six-foot-ten, point-forward is expected to make his Canadian youth international debut at the upcoming 2022 U17 FIBA World Cup.
Amongst the fastest risers in the 2024 Canadian class, Nitu has outstanding dribbling skills and an excellent shooting touch for his size. On the defensive end, his length and mobility allow Nitu to alter shots and make it difficult for opposing guards to get into the paint.
The Royal Crown Academic forward is receiving early interest from Pittsburgh, Santa Clara, Washington State and Texas Christian.
Ishan Sharma – Fort Erie International
Ishan Sharma (Milton, Ont.) arguably the best shooter in the class of 2024. The six-foot-five shooting guard is having an outstanding early recruiting period that is sure to heat-up after a busy summer.
A knock down three-point shooter who has demonstrated the ability to attack closeouts and score from mid-range off of timely pump fakes.
Sharma is expected to play a major role for team Canada at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Spain.
Stephen Osei – Real Salt Lake
Stephen Osei (Etobicoke, Ont.) is a raw and developing six-foot-eleven big man that has solid defensive instincts. As a member of the 2021 Canadian U16 FIBA Americas team, Osei racked-up two double-digit scoring games, including 12 points, 3 rebounds against a tough Argentina squad in the opening game.
Currently, hooping at Real Salt Lake academy in Herriman, Utah, the Canadian averaged 4.4 points, 2.1 rebounds in 18 games.
Chris Tadjo – NBA Academy Latin America
Chris Tadjo (Montreal, Que) is one of four Canadians, including three from the province of Quebec, that are currently playing at the NBA Latin America Academy.
