Welcome to Florida, where the Atlanta Hawks are about to have it popping in the Bubble.
Let’s call this play like it it. As I look back, those neon nights were nice…especially the inspiration for the interchangeable shorts and player addition sleeves. Still the red, black and yellow of these new All-American like ATL duds go large like Mcdonald’s meals. Do you want fries with that? Because these new jerseys for sweet Georgia are the best since the above the rim Josh Smith era. Or even the Mount Mutombo ones off the block.
Or maybe not!
Finger-wag at all that though, as these throwback influenced threads take it all the way back to the 80’s when Atlanta hawked their own Showtime like Magic’s Lakers’ and a highlight film he almost scripted Hollywood plays with. That human in question being Dominique Wilkins.
The greatest Hawk of all-time to fly with all due respect to recently retired Vince Carter who could still get up at 40 as Air Atlanta. The same man who almost beat Michael Jordan in the free throw line Slam Dunk Contest. The same man who didn’t end up with the Lakers like he didn’t end up on ‘The Last Dance’.
Hmm.
The same man who is such a hallmark Hawk he’s still having his mark on the feathers almost 30 years later.
Now how’s this for a highlight?
A few days back NBA Twitter Godfather, Rob Perez introduced a whole new uniform for the Hawks online.
This week expect them to go viral like a Trae Young shot from way downtown you’d think he was back in Peachtree with the orange, as Twitter get their Talons into these new Hawk highlights.
Still, as long as they keep those editions too for the city.
“It was just tipped to me the Atlanta Hawks will be debuting the following jerseys starting next season, throwback colors/trim with the theme celebrating “The Human Highlight” era.”
Next season? These joints looks so ludicrous we want them like presents wrapped under the tree, right now, or like those locked down in quarantine wanting basketball back like wishing Rudy Gobert never touched all those microphones like Dave Chappelle’s impression of George Bush.
These bold HAWKS aren’t the only thing putting on for the A, as on the other side of the Bubble in Disney World for the WNBA the Atlanta Dream have some new uniforms themselves that in bold caps are your wildest.
Still in closing check the left lapel. Like the logo? Like those good Charlotte Hornets jerseys like their owner Jordan, this Jumpman helps these league fits really take off. It’s almost like the Jordan/Dominique rivalry is history happening again like a petty ‘Last Dance’ beef. “You want to release new jerseys the same day my doc hits Netflix?! That’s fine. No problem.”
Just let me drop the most iconic logo above everything else and for every team in the L.
Fly Hawks, fly. Sales are about to soar like peaches on a Summers day.
