Recently hired Head Coach Pat Knight is already making a big splash for the Lamar University Cardinals.
Knight was hired on April 5, 2011 after taking over the program Steve Roccaforte, and is currently in the process of putting together a competitive non-conference schedule for the Cardinals, who ended the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 13-17.
The experienced Knight is looking to build his own legacy with the new program and recently announced that the Cardinals will be taking their game across the border for a five game exhibition series against top Canadian opposition.
The NCAA allows basketball teams to play midsummer games on foreign soil once every four years, and Knight is taking full advantage of the rule.
The full schedule is yet to be released, but we expect the Cardinals to play a mix of CIS (Canadian University) and CCAA (Canadian Colleges) Basketball teams.
The Cardinals play in the Southland-East conference and were ripped apart by Canadian point guard Cory Joseph (16 pts, 9 rebs, 4 ast, 3 stls) in a 76-55 non-conference drumming on Dec 1st 2010.
The exhibition games will give Knight additional time to work with his team. Knight will hold 10 practices with his team before leaving for Canada.
