2011 Final 8: UBC Thunderbirds granted top seed at CIS basketball nationals

The CIS basketball committee announced the 2011 Men’s Final 8 Basketball seedings. The University of British Columbia who won the 2011 Canada West Championship earned the top spot at the prestigious tournament taking place in Halifax at the Metro Centre starting on Thursday March 10-13, 2011.

The Carleton Ravens who dropped an unexpected decision against OUA champions Lakehead Thunderwolves were awarded the #2 seed and face a tough first round match-up against the Quebec champions Concordia Stingers. Rounding out the top four seeds are the 2010 defending CIS Basketball National Champions #3 Saskatchewan Huskies and OUA Champions Lakehead Thunderwolves.

Trinity Western Spartans where given a second chance over the AUS’s Cape Breton Capers and X-Men as the tournaments Wildcard entry.

2. Carleton Ravens (OUA finalists: 22-0 regular season / 2-1 playoffs)
3. Saskatchewan Huskies (CWUAA finalists: 20-4 regular season / 3-1 playoffs)
4. Lakehead Thunderwolves (OUA champions: 17-5 regular season / 3-0 playoffs)
5. Trinity Western Spartans (Wildcard: 21-3 regular season / 3-2 playoffs)
6. Dalhousie Tigers (AUS champions: 14-6 regular season / 2-0 playoffs)
7. Concordia Stingers (RSEQ champions: 12-4 regular season / 2-0 playoffs)
8. Acadia Axemen (AUS finalists: 7-13 regular season / 2-1 playoffs)
