Celtic Pride like a Damon Wayans’ movie doesn’t get much stronger than this.
Boston may have not won in awhile (you know Lakers Nation has to get that in), but the still most storied franchise in NBA history had to remind everyone that King James and his Lakers haven’t taken them off their championship throne just yet.
Seventeen banners tied with the belt to play for next year, we were only a few games away from another classic chapter in the Ali and Frazier like rivalry between Bean town and the Lake Show in Florida’s Disney World Bubble for the Finals last season. Now with the Kobe trained young superstar Jayson Tatum re-upping for another half decade with the C’s, expect this clash of champions to carry on for years. Closing in on a century of conflict.
What better way for a franchise that has had everyone from Lord of The Rings, Bill Russell, to The Truth, Paul Pierce play for them to celebrate than with this banner moment?
Boston are calling their new Celtic City Edition Nike jerseys something coming straight, “from the rafters to the parquet”. Featuring fonts and the classic green trim on white colour scheme from their championship celebrations, these uniforms are literally like the banners Boston have put up there for a Celtic franchise that has no ceiling like a Lil’ Wayne mixtape.
Raise them up.
They will be running like the common cold with these new jerseys until they put another real banner up there with the nose bleeds.
Jaylen Brown, Tacko (as tall as the rafters himself) Fall and more debuted this new look at the end of last week and how simple, but straight forwardly sweet it is.
Boston’s faithful have given this one a bit of a backlash, but even this Laker fan loves the inspired idea. Some call it lazy, but classic Celtics court clothes have always kept it back to basics business. Therefore, until I see a City Edition thread that looks like a logo napkin from the Boston bar and TV show ‘Cheers’ then nothing beats this.
Despite ATL’s MLK’s, Orlando’s orange and the Lakers LORE of Minneapolis blue (leaked but not released) leading the way. Even if he doesn’t like the “we only hang banners that were won for our city” shade. Trying to claim a technicality like Trump now the Lakers are about to do the numbers next year like Biden when it comes to counting all the chips.
Hold on to that Twitter handle of “17 Time NBA Champs” in your bio for as long as you can guys.
Even the teams’ Vista Print sponsor have given their logo a Celtics like green nameplate make over. The kind synonymous with the starter jackets that read the names of all their greats on the back. Just like the legend of Larry Bird who never took his warm-ups off as he shot his way to a three-point shooting contest win at All-Star weekend after asking, “who’s coming in second place” whilst still in his sweats.
Like the quote trimmed at the bottom of the jersey from Red Auerbach says, “the Boston Celtics are not a basketball team, they’re a way of life.”
Better not tuck that notion in this year.
Let it all hang out.
When it comes to hardwood classics, nothing comes close to these Celtics for the city.
No red cent or cigar.
