Here’s a quick glance at some of the top 5 performances of the week (November 9 – November 14, 2010) in CIS Men’s Basketball action.
#4 Kale Harrison – Laurier Golden Hawks – OUA
Put up major numbers in leading the Golden Hawks to 1-1 weekend split against the Nation’s capital duo. His all around skills were in display against a shorthanded Ottawa Gee-Gees (Warren Ward). Kale went to work for 30 points (10/18 FG%, 4/10 3FG%, 6-6 FT)6 rebs, 5 asts, 2 stls, 3 blks and 0 turnovers. The next night he exploded for 39 points (13/22 FG%, 4/10 3FG%, 9-13 FT) against Dave Smart and the defensive minded Carleton Ravens. Unfortunately, his scoring wasn’t enough as they dropped a 10 point decision (81-71).
#30 Daniel Ferguson – Alberta Golden Bears – CW
Daniel has been short of spectacular this season for the Golden Bears and this weekend was no different as Alberta went 2-0 earning two tough road wins (81-71, 89-75) against Brandon University. On Friday Ferguson erupted for 38 points (9/19 FG%, 7/12 3FG%, 13-15 FT%) and 4 rebounds. He followed that up on Saturday with 20 points (6/11 FG%, 4/6 3FG%, 4-6 FT%) including 2 rebounds and 2 assists. His outstanding 3-point shooting continues to be the difference, he currently leads the CIS with a total of 27 3-pointers made and is shooting an incredible 55% from beyond the arc. The Golden Bears sit at top of the Canada West standings with a record of 5-1.
#12 Rejean Chabot – Saskatchewan Huskies – CW
The defending CIS basketball champions Huskies continue to try and find their identify and Rejean Chabot is one player that will be key if the Huskies have any aspirations of getting out of Canada West and reaching Halifax. On Friday Chabot scored 28 points (11/22 FG%, 2/6 3FG%, 4/5 FT%). Teammate Jamelle Barrett was in a giving mood on Saturday and helped Rejean Chabot improve his efficiency by scoring 34 points on (11/19 FG%, 3/5 3FG%, 9-10 FT%) including 6 rebs and 5 asts. Chabot was the leading scorer in both of the Huskies key victories (93-61, 107-90) against the 1-7 Lethbridge Pronghorns.
#5 Joey Haywood – Saint Mary’s Huskies – AUS
The Saint Mary’s Huskies have yet to win a game in the ultra competitive AUS and currently sit at 0-4 after being swept(93-90, 101-82) by the Cape Breton Capers. Despite the teams struggle no blame should be put on Joey Haywood who has played every single minute of conference play thus far, managing to stay out of foul trouble and lead the Huskies in scoring. His 28 points (9/21 FG%, 3/8 3FG%, 7/9 FT%) were a game high on Saturday night. On Sunday afternoon exploded for 27 points (11/17 FG%, 1/5 3FG%, 4/5 FT%)
#8 Kyle Desmarais – Concordia Stingers – QSSF
Central Connecticut State transfer Kyle Desmarais earned the Stingers a weekend split against their conference foes. On Friday Desmarais played solid game 23 points (8/16 FG%, 4/11 3FG%, 3/3 FT%) however his efforts weren’t enough as Concordia dropped a 97-91 road game to Laval. On Saturday his ability to get to the foul line was evident as he responded by scoring a game high 25 points (4/8 FG%, 1/2 3FG%, 16/21 FT%) leading the Stingers to 79-67 victory over UQAM. Kyle has the ability to score at ease as his 6-2 frame creates match-up problems at the point guard position. His 11 turnovers in two games is also an area of concern.
