Week two of the CIS Men’s Basketball season officially kicked off the regular season for all teams across the country with a total of 41 games played. With no shortage of top performers and a vast selection to choose from, here are your BasketballBuzz Top 10 CIS Men’s basketball performers for week two.
Philip Scrubb – (PG 6’4″, 195 lbs, 5th year) Carleton Ravens
The three-time MVP wasted no time putting the entire CIS on notice with a terrific opening weekend. With only a handful of games left in his career at the Ravens Nest Scrubb torched both the Brock Badgers and the McMaster Marauders for a combined 65 points in two games in front of the Ravens faithful. He lite-up the Badgers for 25 points in the first half before being shut down for the night with only 25 minutes of action.

Mamadou Gueye (F 6’7″, 185 lbs, 2nd year) – Alberta Golden Bears
In only his second year Mamadou Gueye looks poised for a big season the Golden Bears. The Montreal connection was too much for the Trinity Western Spartans to handle with two solid games.

Thomas Scrubb (F 6’7″, 215 lbs, 4th year) – Carleton Ravens
Thomas Scrubb makes his first of many appearances in the Top 10 with a strong double from against the McMaster Marauders. The fourth-year forward also rung up 17 points on the Badgers in only 16 minutes.

Johnny Berhanemeskel (G 6’3″, 175 lbs, 5th year) – Ottawa Gee-Gees
Berhanmenskel became the Ottawa Gee-Gees All-time leading scorer in UO’s romp over the Marauders and was hot all-game against the upstart Brock Badgers.

Chris McLaughlin – (F 6’10″, 235 lbs, 4th year) Victoria Vikes
Mclaughlin makes back-to-back appearances in the Top 10 thanks to a big-time 31-point effort in the weekend sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds. It’s early, but the Oakville, Ontario native is looking like the early candidate for CanWest player of the year honours.

Kashrell Lawrence (G 6’2″, 185 lbs, 3rd year) – Dalhousie Tigers
Mr. Lawrence had a huge performance on opening weekend vs. the UPEI Panthers, posting a game-high 31 points and 11 rebounds in a close loss. Overall extremely efficient weekend from the Brampton native.

Nov 8. vs. UPEI Panthers W, 93-84: 20 points (9/15 FG, 2/3 FT), 9 rebounds, 2 steals
Tyler Scott (G 6’2″, 185 lbs, 2nd year) – UPEI Panthers
Arguably one of the toughest covers around the country Scott had an outstanding all-around effort in the Panthers first regular season. As long as UPEI can keep winning games he will in the race for AUS player of the year honours.

Nov 8. vs. Dalhousie Tigers W, 93-84: 24 points (8/17 FG, 4/7 3PT, 2/3 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists
Javon Masters (G 6’3″, 190 lbs, 2nd year) – UNB Varsity Reds
The 2013-14 rookie of the year cooked-up his first 30+ game of the season. Masters got to the charity stripe a total of 18 times this weekend.
Nov 7. vs. Acadia Axemen W, 83-76: 19 points (6/13 FG, 3/4 3PT, 4/8 FT), 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals
Nov 8. vs. Acadia Axemen W, 88-72: 34 points (12/21 FG, 1/5 3FG, 9/10 FT), 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
Rotimi Osuntola Jr (G 6’5”, 175 lbs, 4th year)- Windsor Lancers.
Osuntola an OUA All-Rookie team selection played a big part in the Lancers victory over Western. Osuntola dropped 15 points on the Mustangs and collected 15 defensive rebounds. The Lancers two days later beat Guelph where Osuntola had yet another double-double scored 17 points and collected 10 rebounds. Osuntola went perfect on free throws from the line in the victory.
Nov 5. vs. Western Mustangs, W, 85-55: 15 points (6/14 FG, 2/3 FT), 15 rebounds, 4 blocks.
Nov 8. vs. Guelph Gryphons, W, 92-75: 17 points (6/11 FG, 4/4 FT), 10 rebounds, 3 assists.
Devin Johnson (F 6’4″, 185 lbs, 3rd year) – Toronto Blues
Devin Johnson aka the “The Mayor” went to work pulling a weeks best 18 rebounds in a massive game against the Waterloo Warriors

Nov 8. vs. Laurier Golden Hawks, L , 89-86: 20 points (5/12 FG, 2/4 3PT, 8/9 FT) 6 rebounds
Honorable Mention:
Josh Wolfram (F 6’10”, 229 lbs, 3rd year) – Thompson Rivers Wolfpack
The Wolfman led the Wolfpack with an impressive double-double with 30 points, 15 rebounds. The versatility Kamloops, BC native is a tough cover week in week out with his ability to stroke from mid-range and beat opposing bigs off the bounce.
