Kelly Olynyk Next Canadian to Exit Gonzaga Bulldogs Basketball Program early?

Kelly Olynyk is currently exploring options on how to proceed with his collegiate NCAA basketball career.

Few Canadian Basketball supporters tout Kelly Olynyk, a BC Basketball product, to be a potential NBA Draft pick someday. The decision should have a direct impact on his future.

A disappointing sophomore season is a contributing factor, many expected the versatile big men to improve his averages, after strong performances with the Canadian Senior Men’s National team at the 2010 World Championships in Turkey.

Olynyk struggled to get into the rotation, averaging only 13.5 minutes per game while registering career highs in both rebounding (3.8) and scoring (5.3).

With his NBA future potentially hanging in the balance, maybe we should be asking why Canadians are going to Gonzaga in the first place? The Bulldogs at one point boasted a heavy Canadian basketball contingent with four players and may be down to only one Canadian Basketball prospect, with incoming and highly praised freshmen Kevin Pangos.

With recent departures from players like Bol Kong and Mangisto Arop will future Canadians consider the Bulldogs program when deciding their NCAA futures?

Mark Few has struggled with his 2008, 2009 recruiting classes with 5 players transferring from the program. Andy Poling, Grant Gibbs, GJ Vilarino, Bol Kong, Manny Arop. Will Kelly Olynyk become the sixth to bounce out of Spokane?

Robert Sacre, also a Canadian West Coast representative has the opportunity to be the most decorated Canadian to rock a Bulldogs jersey, he’s currently displaying his skills to NBA Scouts and could prove a worthy addition to the right NBA team.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs history with Canadian basketball prospects trace back to P-Mac as in Pierre-Marie Altidor-Cespedes a Montreal native.
