Top 10 Performers: 2011-12 BasketballBuzz CIS Men’s Basketball Week 10

Some outstanding efforts from across the country, from freshmen guards to seasoned senior vets, below is another stat-filled edition of the 2011-12 BasketballBuzz CIS Men’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Performers.

Sean Peter – Trinity Western Spartans – CW
Sean Peter has been the Spartans most consistent and durable player, the fifth-year senior transfer (Ottawa Gee-Gees) has yet to miss a game and is second on the team in scoring with an average of 18.2 points per game along with 6.0 rebounds and a 58.6% field goal percentage that ranks fourth in the country.

Feb 3. vs. Thompson Rivers Wolfpack W, 89-77: 28 points (10/16 FG, 1/2 3FG, 7/10 FT) 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
Feb 4. vs. Thompson Rivers Wolfpack W, 97-92: 27 points (9/13 FG, 0/2 3FG, 9/10 FT) 8 rebounds, 1 assists, 6 steals

Max Allin – Laurier Golden Hawks – OUA
Allin makes it three-straight appearances in the Weekly Top 10. The Chatham, ON native is averaging 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7.5 assists over the last six games. At this point in the season it is tough to find another point guard playing better CIS basketball.

Feb 1. vs. @Windsor Lancers W, 79-77: 28 points (7/22 FG, 4/13 3FG, 3/3 FT) 10 rebounds, 9 assists
Feb 4. vs. McMaster Marauders L, 72-82: 23 points (7/19 FG, 5/9 3FG, 4/8 FT) 12 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals

Ilarion Bonhomme – Brandon Bobcats – CW
The freshmen guard from Washington DC, gave the Brandon Bobcats faithful a proper send off in the final two home games of the storied 46-year old BU Gymnasium. Bonhomme, a 5’11 guard got to the foul-line a total of 41 times in two games. More importantly, his effort kept the Bobcats slim playoff aspirations alive heading into the final week of Canada West action. With averages of 12.3 points, 6.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game he is amongst the leaders for the Top freshmen award in the country.

Feb 3. vs. @Lethbridge Pronghorns W, 92-87: 21 points (3/7 FG, 2/4 3FG, 13/22 FT) 6 rebounds, 9 assists
Feb 4. vs. @Lethbridge Pronghorns W, 87-75: 25 points (5/7 FG, 2/3 3FG, 13/19 FT) 6 rebounds, 10 assists

Tory Fassett – St. Mary`s Huskies – AUS
Fassett was simply unstoppable down the stretch notching a double-double in a tight game against the Axemen. The eleven rebounds tied a season-high, upping his double-double total to six.

Feb 1. vs. Acadia Axemen L, 75-76: 28 points (12/26 FG, 0/3 3FG, 4/5 FT) 11 rebounds, 5 assists

Philip Scrubb – Carleton Ravens – OUA
Scrubb’s name does appear often in the Weekly Top 10. In fact, this is only his second appearance. Nevertheless, the Ravens floor general has to be the leading candidate for the Mike Moser Memorial Trophy, aka the MVP of the league. Scrubb is averaging 16 points, 4.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds in only 25 minutes per contest, and Ravens (18-0) are well on their way to another undefeated OUA season. Oh yeah, he drilled a season-high eight three-pointers this week.

Feb 3. vs. @Ottawa Gee-Gees W, 91-61: 30 points (9/15 FG, 8/11 3FG, 4/6 FT) 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Ryan Barbeau – Western Mustangs – OUA
Barbeau has really turned it on as of late and has scored 20-plus points over his last five games while helping the Mustangs (7-11) go 3-2 during the stretch. He’s currently averaging a shade under 23 points per game and has a legit shot at claiming the 2011-12 CIS Men’s basketball scoring title.

Feb 1. vs. Guelph Gryphons W, 69-66: 27 points (8/22 FG, 3/10 3FG, 8/9 FT) 7 rebounds, 7 assists
Feb 4. vs. Brock Badgers W, 85-61: 23 points (6/17 FG, 3/7 3FG, 6/9 FT) 8 rebounds, 4 assists

Daniel Ferguson – Alberta Golden Bears – CW
Ferguson is as good as they come in the country, the Bears point guard showed his big time scoring ability by nailing seven three-pointers. At 6’3, the fifth-year senior has the ability to shoot over most CIS basketball guards and ranks amongst the very best shooters in the nation with 52 made three-pointers.

Feb 3. vs. @Regina Cougars W, 81-69: 26 points (9/17 FG, 3/8 3FG, 5/5 FT) 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals
Feb 4. vs. @Regina Cougars W, 89-60: 27 points (9/13 FG, 7/10 3FG, 2/2 FT) 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals

Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson – Calgary Dinos – CW
Ogungbemi-Jackson just missed out on back-to-back double doubles in two excellent performances against the Manitoba Bisons. The 5-foot-9 Winnipeg guard is averaging 18 points, 8 rebounds (Top 20) and 3.1 assists for the surging Calgary Dinos.

Feb 2. vs. Manitoba Bisons W, 87-79: 18 points (5/11 FG, 4/6 3FG, 4/4 FT) 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals
Feb 3. vs. Manitoba Bisons W, 98-89: 21 points (6/15 FG, 4/7 3FG, 5/8 FT) 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals

Donathan Moss – UPEI Panthers – AUS
The outstanding season continues for Donathan Moss and the UPEI Panthers. The 6’4, third-year guard pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds to notch his fifth double-double of the year and further his case for all-conference honors. The Nassau, Bahamas native currently leads arguably the best starting five in the nation (four players average 15+) with 18.3 points per game.

Feb 4. vs. @Dalhousie Tigers W, 97-73: 23 points (7/21 FG, 1/5 3FG, 8/11 FT) 13 rebounds, 5 assists

Owen Klassen – Acadia Axemen – AUS
Klassen came through with crucial blocks and timely free-throws in one of his better outputs of the season. The 6’11′ agile big men is averaging 14.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and is amongst the best shot blockers around.

Feb 1. vs. St. Mary’s Huskies W, 76-75: 16 points (6/11 FG, 0/1 3FG, 4/7 FT) 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks

Honorable Mention(s):

Boris Bakovic – Calgary Dinos – CW
Bakovic, the current CIS Men’s basketball All-time scoring leader poured in back-to-back 20 point games. The scoring record currently stands at 2242 points and should continue its upward climb with two crucial games remaining for the Dinos.

Feb 2. vs. Manitoba Bisons W, 87-79: 21 points (7/15 FG, 2/2 3FG, 5/8 FT) 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
Feb 3. vs. Manitoba Bisons W, 98-89: 22 points (9/15 FG, 4/5 FT) 7 rebounds, 4 assists
